ADULT RECOGNITIONS FOR
UNIT AND DISTRICT SCOUTERS
IN THE
KLAHAYA DISTRICT

Dear Scouter,

Throughout the year we recognize youth that have achieved various ranks or milestones in their scouting career. And that is what we should do. But now it is time to recognize those of you who have excelled in working with youth in scouting. We call it our "District Recognition Dinner." We have a dinner because we think it is the right way to have some fun and recognize our peers in an appropriate manner. For those of you who are new to our adult recognition let me explain them to you:

Silver Beaver Award: This is the highest award that a Scouter can receive at the Council level. In all of Mt. Baker Council only 7-12 of your peers will be so honored. This recognition is usually bestowed on individuals who have been Scoutmaster/Cubmaster for a long time, and/or worked on the District or Council level for years and have made an outstanding significant contribution. Most Silver Beaver recipients have already received the District Award of Merit.

District Award of Merit: The highest honor that a Scouter can receive on the District level. Usually three are chosen for this award in each District. These Scouters have made a significant contribution to Scouting.

Dr. Leeon and Virginia Aller Award: This award will go to only one Scouter in the District. This person is a special Scouter in many ways. Many of the past recipients have already received the District Award of Merit and other District Recognitions.

Outstanding Unit Leaders: The awards committee will select one from each of the four programs of scouting to be so recognized. If you feel strongly that your unit leader should be recognized please take the time of give the committee as much information as possible so they can make a just decision.

Spark Plug Award: Every unit has a special person who really makes things happen for your unit. It may be your unit leader or it may be someone else. Let us know who that person is and we will recognize them.

Outstanding Unit Committee Chairman: The selection committee will select one outstanding Chairperson for Packs and Troops.

Commissioner of the Year: This nomination can come from Commissioner peers or from the unit level.

So, please take the time to fill out the attached form and give us your recommendations before January 20th. Remember that the more information that you give about your candidates the better the committee can represent you. The committee will meet in February and will finalize their decisions.

And when you send in your recommendations why don’t you send in your dinner reservations also? Use the enclosed form.

Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this request.

Yours in Scouting,
The Klahaya District Dinner Committee
