WHAT IS A KLONDIKE DERBY?

Just like a Klondike race with dogs EXCEPT we have Scouts pulling the sledges. The sledges go from town to town (skill areas) and compete in a skills competition. Some people call it a Winter Camporee.

Scoring will be based on completion of events, being properly dressed for the weather, having correct equipment, etc.

Patrol teams must be at least 4 members and not more than 8

Division I will be Webelos I & 11 Dens

Division II will be Scout Patrols

All participants must be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America SLEDGE SPECIFICATIONS Sledges should be homemade. Old Skis are OK if the I edges have been rounded. A sharp ski edge is dangerous. Safety is of utmost importance. The two designs for sledges have been used for over fifty years and they have proven to be the best. Remember that your sledge must be sturdy enough to transport a team member and all the patrol's gear. Don't forget the heavy duty rope your "dogs" will need to pull the sledge.

EVENTS WILL BE: First Aid, Ice Rescue, Fire building, Cooking, Knot Tying, Distance measuring, log sawing, etc.

WEBELOS LEADERS: This Is a challenging event. Please be dressed for the weather and be able to take Webelos home early If necessary. You may participate as a Webelos Den or you may join a local scout patrol. Adult leaders may follow but may not participate with the patrol.

REGISTRATION: Late fees will be charged (see registration form) If we run out of patches, those that register first will get patches first. We cannot reorder patches.

ADULT LEADERS: Will be needed to run various events. If you are interested please contact Klondike Pete at 425-338-0380 and let him know. Non participating adult leaders may be able to purchase souvenir patches for $2.50 each. Members of staff will receive one patch free.

PARKING: Is a problem... All vehicles will be asked to turn around and park on the right hand side of the road facing toward Hwy 2.
