Ten Reasons Your Organization Should Have a Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop or Venturing Crew
1. Positive Community Relations. Operating a Scouting unit will help your organization receive more visibility in your community.
2. Educational Development. Congress chartered the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) as an educational program for youth. The life skills they learn through the programs help them develop into lifelong assets for their communities.
3. Proven Youth Program. Since 1910 the BSA has provided strong, values-based programs that strengthen character, develop good citizenship and enhance both mental and physical fitness in youth. These are the traits that prepare people to make the best decisions for today and tomorrow.
4. Community Outreach. Reaching families first through Scouting is a good way to further your organization’s membership, spread your values in the community and help achieve your goals.
5. Service to Your Members. Many of your organization’s members have youth that will richly benefit from the Scouting program. Scouting will enhance the existing youth programs of your organization. It will help you better serve your members.
6. Leadership Training. Scouting has highly developed leadership training programs for youth and adult members. The benefits of these training programs can positively affect other areas of your organization.
7. Outdoor Resources. Boy Scout councils maintain camps for the use of their units. The Mount Baker Council operates Fire Mountain Scout Reservation near Mt. Vernon, and Camp Black Mountain in north Whatcom County.
8. Duty to God. The Religious Emblems Program is available to all Scouting members. These programs allow them specific ways to deeply serve their faith and congregations.
9. It is Your Scouting Unit. The BSA grants a charter to your organization. You operate the program in conjunction with your organization’s special goals and needs.
10.Strong Code of Conduct. Youth are taught to live by the Cub Scout Promise, the Boy Scout Oath or Venturing Code. These codes of conduct have stood the test of time and remain relevant today.
